Risk training for boards, risk teams and training providers

Risk Education is RiskTAE’s training practice. We design and teach courses on capital, liquidity and risk management, including Basel 3.1, ICAAP, ILAAP and stress testing, in-house for a single firm or as white-label courses delivered under the brand of training providers worldwide.

Every course is taught by people who have done the work in front of a regulator, and built for the people in the room. A board session on Basel 3.1 is about the questions directors should ask; a course for the capital team is about the calculations.

Topics

What topics do you teach?

Most courses sit in three areas. Capital and the Basel framework takes in Basel 3.1 and the finalised Basel III standards, credit, market and operational risk capital, and the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book. Internal assessments covers the ICAAP, the ILAAP and recovery planning, for the people who write them and the directors who approve them. Risk management covers frameworks, risk appetite, governance and stress testing.

Associate trainers teach specialist subjects outside those areas, including financial crime, sanctions and tax transparency rules such as FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard.

Audience

Who are the courses for?

Board and NED sessions are for directors who approve the ICAAP and ILAAP and need to challenge them with confidence. Technical courses are for the risk, finance and treasury staff who produce the numbers, and for people moving into prudential risk from other roles.

We have taught in the UK, the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

Basel 3.1

Why train on Basel 3.1 now?

Basel 3.1 applies in the UK

The PRA’s Basel 3.1 rules take effect on 1 January 2027, under policy statement PS1/26 published on 20 January 2026. For most boards, the first ICAAP under the new rules will be the first time they see the new risk-weighted assets, so the time to learn what drives them is before that pack arrives.

Questions about Risk Education

Can you tailor a course to our firm?

Who teaches the courses?

Practitioners from our bench who have done the work in front of a regulator, alongside professional trainers, with specialist subjects taught by trainers who have direct experience of the topic. Mark Dougherty leads the practice: he is a Canadian chartered professional accountant with more than 20 years in risk management and contributes risk lectures to the University of Cambridge’s Banking Executive Programme.

Yes. Training providers and conference organisers commission white-label courses from us, designed to their format and taught by our faculty under their name.

Can training be delivered online?
